Don't forget to be at the studio at 6:40 am. Auditions will begin right at 6:45 am SHARP! Come dressed and ready for a professional audition. My student teachers are going to choose the top five they think will have the best shot at a scholarship. They don't know your background or anything else. They are basing it strictly on your audition just like they will at the scholarship audition. This will be a modern audition. There will be a warm-up, technique, across the floor, and improvisation. You need to arrive to Westlake at 7:05 am SHARP! The bus is going to pick up Lehi at 7:00 am and then they are heading to Westlake. You need to be dressed in your black capri unitard with your navy blue WDC sweat bottoms over. You need to have your white WDC v-neck t-shirt over your unitard with you WDC jacket over that not zipped. I want you to all look the exact same and professional on the bus. Please iron your white v-neck. This is an assignment please. I don't want your shirt wrinkled. Your hair and make-up need to be the way I listed in the last post according to the piece you're in. This is an important performance so please take your time on your make-up and hair!!!!!!! You have a curfew of 10:00 pm in your bedrooms on Friday night unless you were one of the seniors auditioning. We will literally be dancing from 8:30 am-9:30 pm that night so you need to be rested. Your bus buddie will be physically calling you at 9:55 pm on Friday night on your cell phone. If you don't have your bus buddy's cell phone please exchange them now. PLEASE LOOK AND ACT PROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!! In your WDC bag you need to have packed; Your entire costume for your adjudication piece neatly ironed and folded (refer to previous post), money for lunch and dinner or snacks, camera, band aides, water bottle, a solid black shirt or tank top, theraband, anything you need to touch up before the GALA, and your DANCER BUM shorts. For all your classes you must be barefoot. This is a requirement from the festival directors. For your classes I want you to wear your capri black unitard, your DANCER BUM shorts and a solid black t-shirt or tank top. This is it for now! Please don't forget to block off Thursday night for the Alliance Concert. I want you there to support them! Your call time will be at 6:15 pm. You will be getting ready in Mrs. Morrey's room. Please be professional and responsible. You will be rehearsing festival pieces on Tuesday and Thursday the whole time during class and until 3:30. By Wednesday after school you need to have everything for your festival costume. Do not wait until the last minute. BYU DAY OF DANCE!

1. Be at the school at 7:30 am SHARP completely ready!!!!! You need to be wearing your black unitard, WDC sweat bottoms over, your WDC v-neck t-shirt with your WDC jacket over. You need to have your DANCER BUM shorts packed in your WDC backpack. You need to steam your coral romper and have it hung up on a hanger with a white tall kitchen bag over the top with your name written on the bottom left corner of the bag in black sharpie.
2. Your hair needs to be in a normal french braided up the back of your hair into a straight high pony tail. You need to take a piece of your hair and wrap it around your elastic and then pin it. Your bangs need to be in a bump.
3. Your make-up needs to be done darker than normal and neat. Your cheeks need to have more blush on them than normal and you should have a light color on your lips with a gloss on top.
4. You should pack a water bottle and a camera for memories. Bring money for lunch. Bring any extra snacks that you might need. I will bring a first aid kit. If you need any medicine, make sure you bring your own. You need to bring either colored pencils, markers, or crayons.
5. You need to find out your bus buddies favorite breakfast and bring them breakfast. You need to pack it up nice for them. You also need to find out their favorite Disney character and print a coloring page off the internet for them to creatively color in their down time.
6. During the dance concert, you need to be in your WDC sweat bottoms and jackets zipped up. You need to be on your best behavior during the concert. No cell phones or i-pods, no sleeping, no talking!
7. We will be on our way home by 3:45. Please contact your ride when we are about in American Fork so they are their to pick you up when we get back. See you then!

BYU and Festival!

Please keep practicing Matika's BYU piece at home. We will not be working on that in company this week. I am going to change your outfit for that piece a bit. Anything you learn for festival should be perfect when you get back to company the next time. Tomorrow we will be doing a hard warm up and a super stretch. Then we are going to work super hard on our festival pieces until 3:15. I expect you to come to class ready to work hard. Hurry and get dressed and when you enter class begin to warm up on your own until everyone gets in there. Thanks and I will see you tomorrow!

New Year, New Semester, Fresh Start!

Alright WDC I have a couple of challenges for you. First, I want to challenge everyone on company to get a 3.5 or higher G.P.A. Let's help encourage each other to make this happen. I want to be able to print off a statistic chart and give it to the admin to show them what great, smart, and dedicated kids I get to work with everyday. Not that your not great if you don't get a 3.5, this is just a challenge. Anyone up for it? Second I want you to introduce yourself to someone on our school that you have never met. Maybe a new kid, or someone that doesn't seem to know many people. However you want to do it. And the last challenge and most important is every free time you get in company should be spent on improving your dance knowledge or ability. Study the curriculum, read one of my college texts on dance, work on flexibility, work on strength, work on progression chart, or week on your feet with your theraband. You should be busy without me telling you to do it. It should be internally (you) motivated not externally (me).

Just a reminder about a couple of things. If your choreographer is teaching and you are not in that section or piece, you can not talk on the sides. Remember I don't want to see a cell phone. I also don't want any laptops in company. If you have homework that needs to be done on a laptop, it needs to be done at a different time. If you see someone is trying to work and focus on company, please don't distract them. Make sure your outfit for company looks dancerish and follows the correct dance attire. I do not want any socks in company at all. If you want to warm up with them on because your feet are cold that's fine but as soon as we start pieces they come off! We are starting into our serious business time. Let's do it right! My goal is to have this be the best concert I have ever put on! So I hope you have the same goal!

Homework Assignment: I want you to write down one thing you would like to add or change about WDC. It is due tomorrow! It needs to be on a notecard! You don't have to decorate it:) See you tomorrow. Be ready for a hard warm-up and stretch:) I am feeling a bit motivated this morning:) Sorry if there are typos. I don't want to proofread this!

TONIGHT

Call time is 5:30 sharp in the studio! We will be rehearsing both pieces, but I would like you in your hip-hop costume when you get here.

Your hair needs to be in a high straight pony with your bangs out of your face if you are not wearing a hat. If you are wearing a hat, make sure that it is completely secure.

Your make-up should be quite a bit darker than normal. Before you perform you should have a light color on your lips and they should be glossy! You need to wear fake eyelashes to make our eyes look bigger on stage.

You need to have layers on the top. EX. Maybe like a cap sleeve solid t-shirt with another color cardigan over it. You can really put anything together on the top as long as it is conservative, long sleeve, and it looks rockin'! Make sure your chest, belly and back is completely covered even when you are moving.

You need to have your dancer bum shorts on the bottom. If you want to roll them up and wear something underneath that is fine. If you just want to wear something under them that is fine. Or if you just want to wear them plain, that is fine. Just please look hip hoppie:)

You need to wear some fun socks. I want them to be wild. You can wear whatever shoes you want, but they need to be super secure. I don't want any laces coming untied or any shoes flying off!

Make sure you bring all of your costume items for Matika's piece. Unitard, skinny jeans, decorated white shirt, two different ribbons, silly bands, painted fingernails and toe nails. You will be changing your hair from a high pony to two low pig tails for this piece, so bring extra hair stuff.

Don't forget your buddies water bottle and quote!

Good Morning WDC:) If you are in Matika's piece you need to be at the school at 5:45 am in the morning which is Monday!!!:):):):):):) I want to start a full rehearsal at 6:00 am stretched and ready to go. We will warm up good from 5:45-6:00 am and have a tough rehearsal from 6-7:35! The piece will be totally clean when we are finished with this rehearsal! DO NOT BE LATE! Hopefully rehearsal will go well and we won't have to rehearse Tuesday morning. On Tuesday, please hurry and get dressed because we will be starting rehearsal right at 12:50 SHARP! We are not leaving rehearsal until both pieces look perfect and are performed perfect according to me! I am going to do my best to get you into a gym to set on the floor.
2. $30.00 for BYU day of dance needs to be paid to the financial office by Jan, 26. NO EXCEPTIONS! It is already set up for you, just tell them it is for BYU. $30.00 for State Festival needs to be paid to the financial offfice by Feb.16 NO EXCEPTIONS!
3. Everyone needs to have their pictures viewed by this Friday or you will not be able to be in the showcase. I have given you more time than we committed to Matt. So please if you haven't gone in, do it now:)
4. Please make sure that both of your outfits are ready to go for Wednesday. I will post more information on that later. Your shirt for Matika's piece needs to be fully done and brought to class on Tuesday for me to pass off for 25 pts.
5. You will have a buddy for Wednesday that you will bring a decorated bottle of water with an inspirational quote attached to it. When I say decorated, I want you to take the time to decorate it. 1. Change of plans! I have decided that our audience has seen too many repeats from WDC and they need something new. So the plan is to do Matika's piece on Jan. 11 for Storm Night. Their will be a lot of people their because Coach Stowell involves the whole community and their are a lot of performers, therefore it is really important that we look really good. We will be cleaning Matika's piece tomorrow and Friday to completely prepare for Jan. 11. In the meantime you need to get a solid white baggy t-shirt. You need to decorate it like a little kids canvas. That means hand prints, designs, little drawings, or whatever you see a little kids canvas looking like. You will be wearing you black unitard underneath then skinny jeans over the top of those. You hair will be straight in two very low pony tails. I want you to tie two different colored small bows around each pony tail. Your bangs can be however you want them. I want you to locate a lot of silly bands and wear them up your wrists. I want you to paint your toe nails and your fingernails all different colors. Your call time will be 6:00 pm on Jan. 11 in the dance studio. I will provide more performing information later.
2. Not only will we be performing Matika's, we will be performing Shakespeare as well. I would like to set it so the original dancers are in it. BOTTOM LINE, CLEAR YOUR JAN. 11 THAT IS NEXT WEDNESDAY NIGHT! IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE PERFORM BOTH OF THESE PIECES. Costumes for Shakespeare will be our second piece that we perform so that we can go in full costume!
2. Please remember BYU day of dance on Saturday Jan 28 and State Festival on Feb. 18.

Performance Tuesday

You need to meet in the dance studio at 5:45 pm dressed in your black base, WDC sweat bottoms, and WDC zip hoodie. Your hair and make-up need to be totally done. We will be rehearsing from 5:45-6:45 hopefully in a gym. We need to make sure that we look awesome for our performance. You can pick up your dress after we rehearse. Here is a reminder for your hair and make-up: I expect your costume, hair, and make-up to look perfect upon arrival!

Hair:

You will wearing your crazy, radical hair piece that goes the left side of your head. Remeber it can be on a headband, barrette, clip, bobby pin, or whatever you want. It just needs to be very secure. Your hair needs to be parted on the left and swept over into a low right side, straight, smooth pony with no flyaways. Clean and neat!

Make-up:

Right side of your make-up needs to be done to perfection! You need to wear one fake eyelash. It needs to look like a movie star. You need to wear a light color lipstick. The left side of your face needs to be done the same way without the eyelash, but you’re going to wet your hand and smear your makeup down your face including your lipstick.

Sirens please remember your red bow! Please review the piece tonight in your head before you go to bed. Thanks for your dedication! See you tomorrow at 5:45 SHARP!

I just wanted to give you a couple of things to work on this week and really try and commit to fitting them into your schedules.
1. I want you to get extremely warm and then sit is all three sides splits for two minutes each today, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Take Saturday and Sunday off and do it again on Monday.
2. I want you to take about 10 minutes on all of these days and work on your feet. That could be with your theraband or prancing, jumping, stretching, or whatever works best for you.
3. I want you to text or call someone different on dance company everyday except Sunday until we get back to dance company on Wednesday. Try and text someone you don't usually text. It is important that we keep our connection to one another.
4. Last I want you to add dance to your New Year's Resolutions. Get a notecard and decorate it. I want you to write a New Year's Resolution on the card that helps you become a better dancer. These will be turned in on Wednesday. Decorate the card and make it fun. I REPEAT A NOTECARD!!!!!!!!

1. You need to wear your WDC sweat bottoms and hoodie to school tomorrow. You can wear any solid colored t-shirt under your zip hoodie. Your hair and make up should be performance ready when you come to school.

3. You need to be in the dance studio at 8:45 to warm-up. You need to be on the stage at 9:00 sharp.

4. Your hair needs to be in a high messy bun with your bangs out of your face if you are not wearing a hat. If you are wearing a hat, make sure that it is completely secure.

What a fun Christmas party. You guys are way creative with your gifts. Who would have ever thought of a giant mushroom as a white elephant or let's wrap a small single twinkie up in a giant bag with tons of tissue paper:) Plunger anyone???? Well tomorrow we need to focus on our hip hop. I am going to try and get us into a gym to space. If we can't we will have to have practice at 7:00 am Friday morning. Please wear the shoes that you are going to perform in tomorrow in class. Remember we are wearing your dancer bum sweat shorts and any color layers with a hoodie or zip hoodie on the top. Also if you are going to wear a hat, you need to rehearse with it on tomorrow. You don't have to wear your dancer bum shorts and stuff, just your shoes and hat. If you don't have your hat on tomorrow, you may not wear it on Friday. We will be doing a deep stretch tomorrow with a little technique. I have divided everyone into 5 different groups for pictures. Your group will go in at the assigned time, and for that hour you will switch off taking pictures. (Ex: One will get a shot done, and while they are changing their costume, someone else will be getting photographed.) If you have any questions, text Hailey.

I made a block from 12:30-1:30, nobody in that group is in Kathleen and Lena's piece. That way those who are can practice for the performance on Tuesday.

No matter what time your pictures are being taken, be in the studio when the bell rings for 4th period. Mrs. Hayes will instruct you what to do from there.

Everything you need to know about pictures!

1. Matt Smith will be coming on Monday, November 21st to do our pictures. That is a B-Day.

2. He will be shooting them in the studio from 11:30am-4:30pm. Hailey will be assigning everyone a time to get their pictures taken. If you have work or anything that will not allow you to get them taken at a particular time, you must let Hailey know by Tuesday the 15th in class.

3. You need to be ready by the time you are assigned. This means hair, makeup, costumes, jumps and shapes are completely ready to go.

Hair: Can be however you would like, the action shots look awesome with it down. Keep that in mind.

Makeup: Needs to look nice, a little darker than normal so it shows through the pictures.

Costumes: You can bring anything from home to wear, along with borrowing costumes from our closet. We will have a checkout list for that. Also, keep in mind you don't want to see ANY underclothing/underclothing lines. Make sure you are wearing a base (unitard, hot shorts, etc.) under all of your costumes, and that it is appropriate. MODEST IS HOTTEST! :)

Props: This is for those who don't want to do dance shots. Make sure you have whatever you need for your pictures.

Jumps and Shapes: Start thinking and planning these now. You need to have 5 or 6 different jumps or shapes that you want to do. Be creative, be you! Our photographer will help make them look cool, you just need to know what you are doing so no time is wasted.

These are going to turn out awesome as long as everyone follows these expectations. We want this process to run smooth! If you have any questions let me or Hailey know. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I just want to remind you that even though we are kind of in our down time it is probably the most important time as far is improving, bonding, and becoming disciplined is concerned. The dancers that push in down time will improve tremendously. Don't look at it as time off, look at it as time to focus, improve, and get ready to kick butt in our spring concert. Also make sure you are being internally motivated. Don't try to do better for anyone else other than yourself or you won't become better at all.

Class Expectations: WE HAVE TO BE DISCIPLINED IF WE WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL. THE FOLLOWING EXPECTATIONS NEED TO BE MAINTAINED BY EVERYONE.

For the performance you need to arrive to Vista at 6:00. You need to wear your WDC sweats there. You need to look nice, meaning, don't wear slippers with your sweats. That is not professional. We are trying to set the example to the younger dancers so please show them what it means to be professional. Please meet in the auditorium at 6:00 sharp! All other belonging should be in your WDC backpack. You need to have your costumes ironed and looking nice. You need to have them folded nicely in your backpack. It is mandatory that you all wear long fake eyelashes and make sure your make-up is darker than normal especially on your cheeks and lips. For your hair I want your bangs french braided to the side and I want your hair in a loose, straight, very low, side pony tail. I want it on the right side. I want your bow from our concert tied around it. I want you to look like little baby dolls and the men just to look super cool. DRESS REHEARSAL

So here is the hub bub. I heard that there is some negativity, eye rolling, and kind of snapping at people during our rehearsal today. The reason for this usually is due to stress and feeling overwhelmed. Try not to take it personally and also try not to do it. Dress rehearsals are always stressful and you have to learn to deal with the stress. Also things always go wrong in them and you end up having to change things. You have to go with it. If you want to look your best you have to roll. We are done setting lights and formations now so on Wednesday this is my plan. I believe that during B3 on Wednesday Logan's 6 person is going to rehearse. I want to start off our rehearsal with Kathleen and Lena's piece. I have some ideas to help improve it. Please don't give up on it!!!!!! I want to work on it for about 30 minutes. Then I want to work on the new spacing for Ashlie and Beccas. (about 20 min.) If you changed directions, please practice. Then I want to clear up the partner formation on Shakespeare. (15 min.) Then I want see Logans. Then I want to run the whole show. Then I want to give you feedback, and then I want to run it again and then give more feedback.. If I feel comfortable at that time, you can go home. So please come ready to go. I luv ya guys! Let's just try and remember concerts are stressfull and sometimes stress brings out the worst in us. Really and truly everyone just wants our concert to be good. Today I want you to go through your basket and start to put it together. Also sometime today physically go through all of the pieces you are in. Monday morning from 6-7:35 am we will be practicing Logans 6 man piece. We will also be staying after the dress rehearsal for a bout 30 minutes to practice it a bit more. Do not be late. All of you should be doing some form of exercise over the break. Whether it be running, stretching, toning, lifting weights or whatever you need to stay physical. Please don't come back Monday and not have exercised at all. Next week is going to be extremely hard and now is not the time to be sedentary. Do abs, splits, therabands, do everything you can please! Good morning guys. I hope you had a good Thursday. Today we are focusing on hair, make-up, call time, volunteers and other super interesting things. Hair; Bangs in something fun that puts them back. French braid, twist, bump, spider web (google it), make it look cool. Practice something over this break. The rest should be in a low very curly pony tail. Not waves, curls! Please make sure that they are separated and not brushed out. I don't want them to look frizzy. I am going to do Reese's hair like I want it today and take a picture and put it on so you can see what I want. You need to pick up your silver bow on Monday morning when you turn in your baskets before school. Remember secret buddies start this day too. I will also give you Logan's dress, Becca and Ashlie's dress, and your order of performance. All of this should be organized perfectly. You also need to have a glow stick in your basket. Please don't procrastinate. Make up; Everyone except for the boys needs to have long, thick fake eyelashes. I don't want them to look super natural. They need to look longer than that. After you apply them, you need to put eyeliner over them. Everyone needs to wear eyeshadow. It needs to be darker than normal. Then you apply mascara. I want you to wear color on your lips and then a gloss over the top. Make sure you either wear bronzer or blush so that your face does not look washed out. That needs to be darker than your would normally wear it as well. Call time will be at 5:00 pm. You need to meet in the green room at 5:00 pm. I would love mom volunteers to donate sliced oranges and water bottles. If your mom/dad is interested in doing this let me know as soon as you can. The green room is only for WDC members. Good morning! The topic of discussion today is going to be based completely on dress rehearsal etiquette, back stage etiquette, and performance. We have two dress rehearsal coming up. On Monday we are just going to do costumes. On Wednesday we are going to do hair make-up all of it just like our show. In our dress rehearsals you may not leave the auditorium unless I know about it. If your piece is not on stage, you should be sitting quietly in the audience. If you have any snacks in the auditorium, you need to make sure you clean up all of your mess. When we are setting formations, I do not want anyone talking except for me and the choreographer. If you have a question you need to raise your hand. All dancers must follow these rules. During a show or dress rehearsal there should absolutely be nobody back stage except for dancers. No friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc...There should be absolutely no cell phones backstage what so ever!!!! As soon as your backstage you need to turn your cell phone off. No talking backstage. You should be focusing, stretching, going through the next piece your in, etc... Act like a professional. They way you look on stage reflects your backstage behavior. I want the audience to feel like they have just been to a professional show. When you are on stage performing you need to make sure all parts of your costume is totally secure. If you feel your costume is not secure that will show in your performance. You need to pretend that you are the only one being watched. There is no hiding on stage. You need to pretend like you are the only one that has to tell the audience the meaning of our piece. If you go out of character once, the audience will loose interest. You need to make sure your entrances and exits are strong. You need to enter the stage with meaning and you need to exit all the way off. All dancers need to make sure they keep the wings completely clear. Today I want you to stretch really good. I want you to sit in your right and left side splits for 2 minutes each. I also want you to sit in frogs for 2 minutes. I want you all to complete the following: 16, 8, 4, 2, 1, tendus and degages en croix. I want these done in turn out and parallel. I want you to spend 15 minutes using your theraband. You can do whatever you need with the band. After all of that I want you to find a quiet spot somewhere in your house and darken the room. I want you to mentally go through every piece you are in perfectly! If everyone takes the time to actually do this, we can't loose. We will be successful! Please take the time! Well today is Sunday a time to relax. All I want you to do today is make sure the following items are all ready to go:

1. Your first secret buddy gift.

2. Your basket excluding Logan's dress and Ashlie and Becca's dress. That means glow stick, hair piece for Shakespeare, hair piece for Kathleen and Lena's piece, everyhting all ready. You need to decorate your basket so that you can easily identify that is yours. You need your name on it somewhere because you will be getting points for it. Inside your basket I need a hard copy of your current grades. You can go online on skyward and print yourself a copy. This is mandatory. If you don't have access to a computer today, call someone on company and they can print your grades for you. This is due right when you turn your basket in. Don't come to me and say, "Here is my basket but it is missing this, this, this and this. Oh and by the way I will have my grades printed and bring them to you at lunch." Not going to happen. Print the now please!

3. If you are in Logan's piece I will see you bright and early at 6:00 am. You should be there a bit before and start warming up out in the hall. You know you need to be warm for this piece, but we really need to start right at 6:00. So come as early as you need.

4. It is our first dress rehearsal. Please be ready with snacks, water, anything you need to stay comfortable. Remember the first one goes long. If you are prepared mentally and phsycially it should be great. Absolutley no one is allowed in the auditorium during dress rehearsal.

5. I only had Taylor volunteer for oranges. That means I would like one more parent on oranges and two parents on water and two parents to take tickets. We really need this guys so help me out! Try and let me know today if your parents can volunteer.

6. And last please review all pieces in your head tonight before you go to sleep. Imagine yourself doing them perfect. Remember being prepared mentally is over half the battle!

We need to sell it out!!!!!! Please be practicing all of your choreography. We will be doing Ashlie and Becca's in class and everything after school until 4:00. Then we are doing Logan's at Vista from 5:30-9:00. You need to start preparing your basket. Here is what you should do.

You can start putting all of these items in your baskets. If you have anything that goes in your hair or any other accesseries you need to put them in ziploc bags. I am going to try something different this year. I want everyone to wear fake eyelashes. I think your eyes will show up better on stage. Your make-up needs to be darker than usual. For your hair this time I want your bangs back any way you want. They can be in a french braid, a cool twist, a bump, spikey, whatever you want that looks cool. I want your hair in a low very curly pony tail. I want ringlets. Like a princess. I want your lips to have color on them and I want them to be totally shiney. Everyone will be wearing a big silver bow that I will purchase and hand out on Monday following fall break. We are going to start secret sisters on that Monday as well. You will get all of your information on secret sisters tomorrow during class. Your basekts are due Monday morning that same day. They need to be in my office before school starts for 25 ponts. That day is also our first dress rehearsal. Here is a list of your secret buddy gifts. You will get your secret buddy tomorrow. Please put thought into all of these gifts. 1. Make sure you pack light! We don't have a lot of room on the bus.

4. Make sure you have written down to turn in how you are going to get into character. I will need those turned int right before you get on the bus.

Good Morning:) I just wanted you to know that I had a lot of fun watching you guys take your pictures. They are going to turn out great! For tomorrow I want you to be outside of the auditorium at 5:20 so we can set our piece on stage. We need to be on the stage at 5:30 and we will rehearse until 6:20. The doors will open at 6:30. You need to come to school in your WDC sweats with your black base underneath. Your hair and make-up need to be totally done. Do not come to the school not ready! You will not have time to get ready. Your costume should be hung up on a hanger. All other belongings should be in your WDC backpack. Boys, I have a cut up black t-shirt that I will be bringing you. I will also be bringing the sirens a black ripped up bow. Make sure everything looks perfect. Part of our judging is our costume, hair and make-up. It really needs to be dramatic. Make sure your headpieces are completely secure. Move all around to be sure they don't fall out. Please do not come to the school scatter brain and unprepared. It makes for a really bad start. Please follow instructions. I really do have a vision of what you should look like. I hope it matches:) You really need to look emotionally confused and I need to completely see the differences in your sides! Good Luck! Please go over all cleaning corrections until perfect. Remember to drink plenty of water, in your new water bottles of course, get plenty of rest, wash your hands frequently, take your vitamins, drink airborne, whatever it takes to keep you healthy you need to do. Wednesday we will be staying after until 3:30. We will only be rehearsing Shakespeare until it is ready and I will also be handing out an October calendar. On Friday we will be doing Kathleen and Lena's piece during school and Shakespeare after school until 3:30. On Friday we need to stay after until 3:45 or 4:00 to set up our picture so that we can just go on Saturday and be totally ready. Saturday is picture day. I am going to try something different this year. I want you to wear something that completely exemplifies your personality. I don't want something in common with all of you because you are totally different people. I want you totally dolled up, but I want your hair, make-up, and clothing to match who you are. Pretty much anything goes as long as you are conservative and you look like you! We will be meeting at Pelican Bay at 6:30 am. If you are late, you will not be in the picture. We will be taking a group photo and an officer photo. If you would like any singles or other groups, she said she would be available for that. I want this picture to look artistic and not posed and perfectly planned. Everyone will be demonstrating themselves. Even in the picture! I want diversity!

First thing first, if you signed up to bring anything for the carnival please bring it to the dance studio before school starts tomorrow. Tomorrow is the first time your school will see the 2011-2012 Dance Company. You need to be at your best. I want you to go out their and perform, perform, perform! You will be excused from class at 11:45. You need to head straight down to the locker room and get ready. Make sure your hip hop outfit is secure, modest, and baggy. Before I start I just want you to know what wonderful and talented dancers that I think you are. I feel privileged to get to work with all of you. You are not only smart, you are great kids. However I need to address something that will hurt our company if I don't take care of it right now. If a practice is scheduled on the calendar, you should not be leaving early. We have had so many people leaving early it is hard to have a meaningful rehearsal. If you decide to audition for a piece it should be your first priority. If you can't make it your first priority, please don't audition. It really isn't fair to all of the dancers that are staying and are fully committing. I don't mind if you have work or other interests, but you need to learn to balance things out and not audition for a piece if you can't give the choreographer your full commitment. I know that sometimes I schedule something without enough time to rearrange your schedule. I understand if you have to leave those practices early. It is the practices that have been scheduled long in advance you shouldn't be leaving. We need to clear this up right away so that is doesn't get in the way of our success this year. My goal is to show the school, community, and yourself just how incredible you are. Now this week I do need to make some changes so that we are completely prepared for homecoming and Shakespeare. I have not changed any of the times.
Here is what the week looks like.
Tuesday Sept. 20-During class and after school until 3:30 is hip hop. This piece needs to be completely done by this day. You need to practice in the complete outfit that you are going to perform in. I want to pass off the modesty. I hope that we can get into the gym either during class or after school. Your combination is also due this day either on a note card or emailed to me. If I don't get it before we leave you will not receive any credit for it. Please put some thought into this. Please don't turn in a rushed and thoughtless work to me.
Wednesday Sept. 21-Today is the parade day :) We need to be lined up outside of the school at 5:30 pm. You need to be wearing leggings, tool tu tus, a shirt with a cardigans over if you have one. You should look colorful, artistic and very modest. We will be walking quite a bit so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. I want your hair down and nice and your make up should look clean and neat. Boys I just want you to wear anything bright and colorful. I need a couple of volunteers to make us a big sign that says WDC and then underneath Westlake Dance Company very bright and colorful. This is the sign that we will hold up during the parade so people will know who we are. The sign needs to be done neat. Do I have any volunteers???????????? Please let me know!
Thursday Sept. 22-During class we will be working on our hip hop and fixing anything that needs it. Hopefully we will be in the gym. After school until 3:30 we will be working on Shakespeare. This is the last time that we get Logan and Matika so you need to bring it :) This is also the day the your $1.00 quiet time activity is due. (Coloring books, crossword puzzles, sudoku puzzles, word searches, crayons, etc...)
Friday Sept. 23-Performance Day Baby:) The assembly is at 12:00. I will dismiss you from class early to get ready. Make sure your hip hop outfit is clean, ironed and neat. It should be the same outfit your wore on Tuesday unless I asked you to make some changes. You hair should be in any kind of pony tail and your make up should be performance ready! You need to make sure your outfit and shoes are secure. I don't want shoes flying off! After the assembly we need to head out to the carnival. If you have been asked to bring something please do not forget it! I want you in jeans, and any Westlake t-shirt or sweat shirt. I want everyone to be very helpful with whatever we need. Please ask Hailey or myself what you can to to help. The carnival is from 1-4. I would like all of you to stay the whole time, but if you can't just let me know. Our booth is ice cream sandwiches with different toppings and a fortune teller booth. We will need as much as help as we can get in setting up, running the booths and clean up. Student council has arranged a flash mob for the first day of school, and they REALLY want dance company to be a part of it. We'll be at Westlake, depending on where they have room for us to practice, that is where we'll be. So let's meet up at the front doors. The rest of the dance may also be taught to us tomorrow, depending on who from student council is there. If they aren't, then a video will be posted on here for you to learn the rest.

They saved us a spot, and it really means a lot. I don't want to disappoint them when only 5 of us show up. So I would really appreciate anyone who can be there, to come :) Plus, I really think it is going to be cool. Send me a text if you can come, just so I can have an idea of who will be there.

Required Materials for Class

On the first day of class you need to bring a three ring (with metal hook things) folder to class. Not a three ring binder, but a three ring folder. It needs to be fully decorated that best matches your personality. You will be turning this in and receiving points. It's the first assignment so please don't forget. If you know that one of your company members does not read the blog, you might want to tell them about this assignment. Peace out!

Shakespeare Information

Duo and Trio Audtions will be on Sept. 8 from 3:00-3:30. You need to come prepared to tell me everything about your sonnet, play, quote or whatever you choose to do your piece about. You need to choose a section from your selected Shakespeare work and show me the choreography that best describes that section. I am looking for meaning. I want to see your piece come to life. You should not have to explain to me what it is about. You will audition your choreography, then explain your Shakespeare work, and then perform you section of choreography again. You do not need to have the entire piece finished. I do not want to waste your time if you are not going to take it to Shakespeare. I can only select one duo or trio. I wish we could take more, but that is all they allow. The piece that best explains Shakespeares work will be the one I will take to the festival. Good Luck! I really would like to have at least 4 groups audition.

The first 20 students to pay their $50.00 deposit for the Shakespeare will have their spots reserved. This $50.00 is nonrefundable. The first day you can pay is Friday August 26. All 20 students will dance in the Shakespeare piece if they can attend all rehearsals. Rehearsals will run until 3:00 on B-days. The first rehearsal for Shakespeare will be on Saturday August 27 from 6-9:30. If you can't attend this rehearsal, you will not be dancing in the Shakespeare piece. We can only get Matika and Logan on certain days, so we need to all be there when we can get them! I want to go to Shakespeare and be incredible. I want you to work hard in every class and place in the duo/trio and the assemble. I would love it to have our assemble showcased for the first time in WDC history. This is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication from all. If you are not this passionate about The Shakespeare Festival, I don't know if it is for you. It is a lot of hard work, but every minute is worth it!!! Write these dates down now!!!

Remember we are bare foot dancers, you are not allowed to wear socks in class. Start gathering these colors now, don't wait until last minute.

We will be having class from 6-9 am on Tuesday July 19 at Vista Heights Middle School Dance Studio. It will be very difficult. Make sure you eat a good breakfast and bring a water bottle. No socks, no gum, and hair must be pulled back! No exceptions! We will be working on everything plus learning some choreography! See you there!

It is time to start getting motivated! Miss Cook and I have a long meeting today to get started on a wonderful year. I will put on details for our officer camp, some optional dates that you can come to VHMS and take a class, and other exciting things on the blog. You need to start reading the blog at least once a week now. If you are reading this make sure you tell fellow company members to get on and read the blog. Hailey will be putting on your first outfit colors for your weekly clothing soon. Remember they need to look professional and they must be dance clothing. I want you to start right now and focus on your feet. Point, flex, turn in and out, prance, jump pushing through your feet, stretch the tops, use your thera band, whatever you want, but you should be working on your feet at least 4 times a week. I also want you to begin to focus on your centers. Work on your abs, but then make sure you work equally on your backs. If you don't know good exercises to do for this, google it. You should be working on your centers at least 4 times a week. Last but not least you need to stretch something every night or morning. Remember to never bounc in stretches. Also make sure your body is really warm before doing any stretching. HOLD STRETCHES if you want flexibility for at least 1-2 minutes. I have a lot of high expectations for this upcoming school year. You are going to have to do things at home to keep up with the demand that I am going to put on you. This is going to be your hardest year of dance yet. So be ready and dedicated. You all need to go and purchase a composition notebook. Please decorate it. Start putting ideas, thoughts, pictures, quotes, combinations, anything dance related in these notebooks. It should almost be half full when we start the school year. You will turn these in on the first day of school for points. I will be buying all of you a theraband and water bottle. You will also be getting a WDC backpack. I want you to use this backpack for school and all of your dance gear. I will make sure they are quality and big enough for all your stuff. We will be doing some solo work at the beginning of the year. I would like you all to have access to an ipod and headphones. I don't want you to purchase one, I just want you to have access to borrow one once in a while. Well this is a start. Like I said, read the blog once a week because, "IT'S ON BABY!"

Help Needed!

Hey guys, it's Mr. President here. We are in need of some volunteers for Saturday. A guy in charge of Saratoga Splash has asked WDC to help monitor the bounce house and make sure kids play nice. Is there anyone who could take a shift? We need members to be helping from 1pm-6pm. Taylor and I will be there from 4-6. So if any of you could take even just an hour somewhere between 1-4 it would be extremely helpful! Let me know asap.
